Caferağa Medresesi

Caferağa Madrasah was built in the period of Suleyman The Magnificient (1520-1566) by Mimar Sinan who was the principal architect, in 1559. The building, said to be in independent madrasah group of the period and having been dormant for long periods of time, was restored by the Turkish Cultural Foundation in 1989. Today, the place organizes workshops to promote and teach traditional Turkish Arts to next generations; produce the right articrafts and train new artists in short-term and long-term workshops.

Tile, Porcelain Patterning, Line, Tezhip, Miniature, Ceramic, Water Marbling, Jewelry Design, Textile Printing Techniques, Toy Making, Carpet and Rug Weaving and other arts are taught, produced and exhibited and the madrasah serves as an art center welcoming local and foreign guests.

In addition to providing daily artistic trainings to the guests who come to our country, Caferağa Madrasah continues its activities in the context of promoting our culture and arts at international festivals abroad. The Madrasah; while continuing its services with artistic activities, corporate meetings and small-group events can also be organized in the large hall of the building.

Caferağa Madrasah continues to exist as an art oasis in Sultanahmet, where art meets history in Istanbul’s cultural mosaic.
